Why this lesson matters: with ir + infinitive you can now put ANY verb you know into the future — no new conjugations needed. One pattern, infinite sentences. This is the highest-leverage grammar since ser/estar.

Step 1 · Warm-up — including your personal weak spots

The first three questions are the exact items you missed in Lessons 2 and 3. Let's close those gaps.

Step 2 · 63 new words

Numbers, days, and the time-and-planning toolkit. Tap or hover any word for the translation; click and repeat out loud.

Numbers 🔢

Days of the week 📅

Time & planning ⏰

Story words 📖 — every one of these turns up in this lição’s história

Don’t drill these like the lists above. Read them once, then meet them again in the story — that second meeting is what makes them stick.

Why "-feira"? Monday–Friday are literally "second fair" to "sixth fair" (an old church calendar). Brazilians usually drop the -feira in speech: até segunda!

Step 3 · Time machines

The future, numbers, the clock, and the week — the grammar of making plans.

1 · The future with IR — now in full

Lição 3 gave you a taste; today it becomes your main tense. Conjugated ir + infinitive covers every future plan: vou viajar (I am going to travel), vão jantar (they are going to dine). Note the elegant weirdness of vou ir ("I am going to go") — Brazilians usually just say vou.

Amanhã eu vou viajar para o Rio. time word + vou + verb
Você vai estudar hoje à noite? question — same order
Eles não vão trabalhar no domingo. não before vai/vão

2 · Vamos + verb — "let's!"

Vamos + infinitive does double duty: "we are going to…" AND "let's…!". Context and tone decide. It is the most inviting word in Brazilian Portuguese.

Vamos comer uma pizza! invitation
Vamos ao mercado amanhã. plain plan
Vamos? — Vamos! the two-word conversation

3 · Numbers 0–100 — the system behind them

Learn 0–15 by heart, then the system takes over: tens (vinte, trinta, quarenta…) join units with e (and): 21 = vinte e um, 45 = quarenta e cinco. Two numbers have gender: 1 (um/uma) and 2 (dois/duas) — two friends (fem.) = duas amigas.

vinte e um · trinta e três · noventa e nove tens + e + units
Eu tenho trinta e dois anos. age uses TER
dois cafés · duas cervejas dois/duas agree

4 · Telling time — que horas são?

Ask: Que horas são? Answer with são + number: São três horas (it is 3). Exception: 1 o'clock is singular — É uma hora. Half past = e meia. Saying "AT a time" uses às: às nove = at nine.

São duas e meia. são + hour + e meia
É uma hora. 1:00 → é, not são
O filme começa às oito da noite. às = at · da manhã/da tarde/da noite

5 · Days of the week — and "on Monday"

Monday–Friday are numbered "fairs": segunda, terça, quarta, quinta, sexta(-feira); weekend keeps names: sábado, domingo. "ON a day" = na (fem. weekdays) / no (sábado, domingo) — your Lição 2 contractions working overtime. Plural = every: aos sábados = on Saturdays.

Na segunda eu trabalho. na + weekday
No sábado vamos à praia. no + sábado/domingo
O fim de semana é sagrado! o fim de semana = the weekend

6 · à, às — the tiny word that means "at"

"AT nine" = às nove — that little backwards accent (à) is a + a(s) squeezed together. You will use it every single day, so get the pattern now:

Trabalho às nove horas. às + plural hours
Almoço à uma hora. à (singular) with UMA hora
de manhã · à tarde · à noite morning takes DE, the others take À
ao meio-dia a + o = ao (meio-dia is masculine)
Why de manhã but à tarde? No deep reason — it is simply how Brazil says it. Memorize the trio as a chant: de manhã, à tarde, à noite.

7 · The classic slips of Lesson 4

❌ São uma hora✅ É uma hora — one o'clock is singular; from two on, use são
❌ em sábado✅ no sábado — "on Saturday"; weekdays: na segunda(-feira)
❌ Eu vou trabalhar. (meaning "I work every day")✅ Eu trabalho todo dia — ir + verb is only for the FUTURE
❌ vinte e dez✅ trinta — after twenty, build with e only inside the ten: vinte e um, vinte e dois…

Step 4 · Cards — the repetition engine

Three rounds. Cards you miss come back until you get them.

Round 1 · Flashcards

Click the card (or Flip) to see the answer, say it out loud, then grade yourself honestly.

Step 5 · Weekend plans

Two friends planning their Saturday. Listen first WITHOUT translations — hover a line if you're stuck.

Did you understand?

🎤 Fala você! — now YOU speak

The step that turns knowledge into conversation. Answer each prompt out loud, in a full sentence — imperfect is fine, silent is not. Then open the model answer, compare, and say the model out loud too.

1 · Say two things you are going to do tomorrow.
Show a model answer

Amanhã eu vou trabalhar e depois vou jantar com amigos.
Tomorrow I'm going to work and then have dinner with friends.

2 · Say the party is going to be at eight o'clock.
Show a model answer

A festa vai ser às oito horas.
The party is going to be at eight o'clock.

3 · Say you and your friends are going to travel next week.
Show a model answer

Nós vamos viajar na próxima semana.
We are going to travel next week.

4 · Ask a friend what they are going to eat.
Show a model answer

O que você vai comer?
What are you going to eat?

There is no single right answer here. If you said something different but it works — great, that IS speaking. Do this step every time and the dialogue at the next churrasco will feel like home turf.
