Privacy policy

Last updated: 16 August 2026

De Roode Design is the data controller for the personal data described here. We keep this short on purpose: Rumo collects very little, and we do not sell, rent or share your data with advertisers.

What we collect

  • Your email address — so you can sign in. Rumo uses a magic link, so there is no password to store.
  • Your first name — only if you choose to enter it. It is used to greet you and nothing else.
  • Your learning progress — which lessons you have completed, your test scores and which questions you got wrong, so your progress follows you between devices.
  • Your purchases — which levels you have access to.

We do not use tracking cookies, advertising pixels or third-party analytics. The only things stored in your browser are your own settings and progress.

Why we are allowed to hold it

  • Performance of a contract — we cannot give you access to a course you bought without knowing who you are and what you bought.
  • Legal obligation — purchase records are kept for tax purposes.

Who processes it for us

  • Supabase — accounts, entitlements and progress (hosted in the EU).
  • Resend — sends your sign-in emails.
  • Lemon Squeezy — payments, invoicing and VAT, as merchant of record.
  • Netlify — hosts the website.

Each of these acts on our instructions under a data processing agreement. Some are based outside the EU; where that is the case, transfers rely on the European Commission's Standard Contractual Clauses.

Fonts and scripts are served from rumopt.com itself — no Google Fonts, no third-party CDN — so opening a page sends your address to Netlify and to nobody else.

How long we keep it

Because access to a purchased level is for life, we keep your account for as long as you have one. Ask us to delete it and we will — see below. Purchase records are kept for seven years, as Dutch tax law requires.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you what we hold, correct it, delete it, or send it to you in a portable format. Write to ola@rumopt.com and we will answer within 30 days. Deleting your account removes your progress permanently and cannot be undone; your access to purchased levels goes with it.

If you think we have handled your data badly, you can complain to the Dutch Data Protection Authority (Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens, autoriteitpersoonsgegevens.nl).

Children

Rumo is not aimed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly create accounts for them.

Terms of service

Last updated: 16 August 2026

What you are buying

Rumo is a self-study Brazilian Portuguese course delivered as a website. Level A1 is free. Levels A2, B1 and B2 are sold individually or as a bundle, as a one-off payment. There is no subscription and nothing renews.

"Lifetime access" means access for as long as Rumo is operated, with no time limit and no further payment. It is not a promise that the service will exist forever. If Rumo were ever discontinued, we would give you reasonable notice and a way to download the lessons you paid for.

Your account

Access is tied to the email address you buy with. Keep it to yourself — an account is for one person. Sharing your login, or republishing or reselling the lessons, is not permitted and we may withdraw access if it happens.

If you bought with one email address and try to sign in with another, we can move the purchase across for you. Just write to us.

What we promise, and what we don't

We will keep the course available and working, and we will keep improving it. Lessons you have paid for stay yours as they improve.

We cannot promise that you will reach a particular level, pass an exam, or learn at any particular speed. That depends on you. We also cannot promise the site will never be down, though we will fix it as fast as we can when it is.

Nothing here limits your rights as a consumer under Dutch or EU law. Where these terms and those rights disagree, your rights win.

The content is ours

The lessons, texts, stories, exercises, audio and design are the property of De Roode Design. You may use them for your own learning, including downloading pages for offline study. You may not copy them into another product, distribute them, or use them to teach paying students without our written permission.

Changes

We may update these terms. If a change materially affects what you bought, we will tell you by email. Continuing to use Rumo after that means you accept the new version.

Law and disputes

Dutch law applies. If we cannot resolve a complaint between us, you may take it to the competent Dutch court, or use the EU's online dispute resolution platform.

Refunds

Last updated: 16 August 2026

Fourteen days, no questions asked. If Rumo is not for you, write to ola@rumopt.com within 14 days of your purchase and we will refund you in full.

Under EU law you have a 14-day right of withdrawal on distance purchases. For digital content delivered immediately, that right normally ends the moment delivery starts and you agree to it. We do not rely on that: within the first 14 days you get your money back whether you have used the course or not.

After 14 days we do not give refunds, because there is nothing left to return — you have the whole level.

How it works in practice

  • Email us from the address you bought with, or tell us which address you used.
  • You do not have to give a reason. If you feel like telling us what went wrong, it helps us improve, but it is not a condition.
  • Refunds are issued by Lemon Squeezy, our merchant of record, back to your original payment method. Their processing usually takes 5–10 working days.
  • Access to the refunded level ends when the refund is issued.

Bought the wrong level, or bought a level and then wanted the bundle? Write to us — we will sort out the difference rather than make you refund and re-buy.
