GRAMMAR LIBRARY · CHAPTER 40 OF 60 · B1 · LIÇÃO 30

Advanced connectors — no entanto, caso

Brazilian Portuguese grammar, chapter 40 of 60 · taught in Lição 30 · level B1. The steering wheel: contrast, conclusion, and the subjunctive trio.

What this is about

Connectors are the steering wheel of a sentence: they say whether the next idea contrasts, explains, concludes, or depends. Lição 19 gave you the basics (que, porque, mas, se). This chapter gives you the B1 set — the words that make speech sound organised and writing sound adult — and, crucially, tells you which ones drag the subjunctive in behind them.

Contrast & concession

O aluguel é caro. No entanto, vale a pena. however (formal mas)
Está chovendo. Mesmo assim, vamos sair. even so
Apesar de ser difícil, vale a pena. · Apesar do preço… despite + INFINITIVE / noun
