Yesterday Clara woke up late… no, better than that: let's talk about the whole weekend! On Saturday, Clara studied Portuguese in the morning. She learned a lot: the past tense! Last month she studied very little, but now she studies every day. Afterwards she bought fruit and bread at the market. At home, she opened her new book: she wants to read a book in Portuguese all the way to the end.

At eleven, Clara left the house on her brother's old bicycle. She loves cycling on Saturday mornings, with music in her ears. Clara cycled for forty minutes to the club and arrived very hot. She swam a little in the pool and then just stayed in the water, still, happy. In the pool she talked with her friend Bia. Bia doesn't like cold water, so she just looked at the pool and ate an ice cream. — You're very lazy — said Clara. — And you're soaking wet — said Bia.

No fim, Bia comeu quase toda a pipoca sozinha. — Que pena! Eu comprei a pipoca para nós duas — falou Clara.

In the afternoon, the two friends walked to the cinema on the corner. Clara bought two tickets and one big popcorn for the two of them. The film started at four, in a small, dark room. (escuro = dark) Clara found the first part very boring: nothing happened in thirty minutes. (aconteceu = happened) But then the film got fun, and she even shouted once. (gritou = shouted) In the end, Bia ate almost all the popcorn by herself. — What a shame! I bought the popcorn for both of us — said Clara.

At night, they had dinner at a small restaurant near the cinema. Clara ate rice and beans and drank orange juice. Bia ate meat and drank a very cold beer. Afterwards the two of them went into a lively party, at the house of one of Bia's cousins. A small band played in the living room, and the singer sang old songs. Then a guy started to play the guitar in the yard, and everyone sang along — and they sang very badly. Clara and Bia danced until three in the morning.

On Sunday, Clara woke up very late, feeling enormously lazy. Sunday is her day off, and she didn't work, didn't study, didn't buy anything. She stayed in bed all day long — well, almost all day long. She opened an old magazine of her mother's and looked at the photos from 1998. Then she watched two episodes of her favourite series. Her mother watched the soap opera in the living room, and Clara watched episode three again.

In the afternoon, Clara's brother arrived with two friends and a ball. They watched his team's match on the TV in the living room. At half-time, the boys ate all the bread in the kitchen. His team lost three to nil, at home, on a Sunday. The other team won with an ugly goal in the last minutes. The boys talked very loudly, and the neighbour banged on the wall twice. (bateu = banged) Afterwards they played volleyball at the beach, and Clara played too. She lost two matches, but found the whole thing very funny.

At night, Clara ate cold pizza and watched a film in bed. Her brother told a very old joke, and the two of them started to laugh. Clara's laugh is far too loud: her mother said “shh” three times. — What a great weekend! — Clara said to the ceiling. (o teto = the ceiling) — I already studied, already cycled, already danced, already ate — now I'm going to sleep! And she slept, very happy, with the TV still on.

On Monday, Bia talked to Clara on the phone: — And the weekend? Did you like it? — I loved it! I studied, shopped, cycled, had dinner, danced and watched a film! — And the film? — asked Bia. — The beginning, boring. The rest, fun. — You learned the past tense very well! — I did! And your weekend? — Mine? I slept! The two friends talked and talked — and then they studied together, lazily, but they studied.
